History & Establishment

Pt. B.D. Sharma University of Health Sciences was established on June 2, 2008 under the Haryana Legislature Act No. 26 of 2008. The university was created by separating the health sciences faculties from Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), Rohtak, and incorporating PGIMS — the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences — which had been functioning as a premier teaching hospital since 1960.

Named in honour of Padma Bhushan Dr. Pitambar Das Sharma, a distinguished physician and educationist from Haryana, the university stands as a landmark achievement in the state's mission to advance health sciences education and research.

Spread over 369 acres in Rohtak city, the UHSR-PGIMS campus is located approximately 70 km west of New Delhi on NH-10 (Delhi–Hisar highway). The campus includes the main hospital complex, academic blocks, residential quarters, hostels, library, sports facilities and a multi-disciplinary research unit.

About the Department

The Department of Internal Medicine at PGIMS Rohtak is one of the largest and busiest medical departments in North India. With 150+ beds and a daily OPD footfall exceeding 400 patients, the department offers comprehensive management of all medical conditions including cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, haematology, hepatology and pulmonary medicine.

The department serves as the primary referral point for patients from Haryana, western UP, Himachal Pradesh and Delhi NCR. It is also a major postgraduate training centre for MD Medicine, with 6 seats per year under NEET PG.

About the Department

The Department of Cardiology at PGIMS is a fully equipped tertiary care cardiac centre serving the entire Haryana-NCR region. The department offers comprehensive diagnostic and interventional cardiac services including cardiac catheterisation, angiography, angioplasty (PTCA), and pacemaker implantation.

The Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory (Cath Lab) is functional 24×7 for primary PCI (heart attack intervention). The department runs DM Cardiology (super-speciality) and offers cardiac fellowship programmes. A dedicated 20-bed Cardiac ICU (CICU) with continuous monitoring is operational round the clock.

About the Department

The combined Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery at PGIMS is one of the most advanced neurological care centres in Haryana and surrounding states. The department manages the full spectrum of neurological disorders including stroke, epilepsy, movement disorders, dementia, headache syndromes, neuromuscular diseases, and neuro-infections.

A dedicated 20-bed Neuro-ICU with continuous EEG monitoring, ICP monitoring, and mechanical ventilation is operational 24×7. The Neurosurgery unit performs brain tumour surgeries, spinal surgeries, vascular neurosurgery, and paediatric neurosurgery. DM Neurology (super-speciality) and MCh Neurosurgery are offered under NEET SS.
